Policy Decisions

Fiscal Opportunities

There will be a number of Fiscal Opportunities presented in various forms, but all of them relate to whether or not you should tax a specific activity in the settlement. This can range from taxing the consumption of a currently untaxed ingredient, tax a new technological development, or tax a specific leisure activity. It doesn’t matter what the scenario is, since the choices and outcomes are always the same, detailed below.

Market Regulation

This policy decision is similar to Fiscal Opportunities, in that you’ll have a range of scenarios where specific activities that your settlers have begun to engage in are brought to your attention. The main difference here is that instead of a choice between taxing or not taxing the activity, you’ll have to decide whether or not to ban it. The results of the choices are exactly the same.

Bettering the Settlement and Improving Our Lives

In addition to Fiscal Opportunities and Market Regulation, you’ll have two other main types of decisions related to the Bettering the Settlement and Improving Our Lives categories. These will always have a positive outcome for the settlement and its settlers, although you will sometimes need to pay an initial one-off fee for the choice to take effect.

FAQs

How to choose a settlement in No Man's Sky? ›

Instead, try to find a settlement with high productivity and no debt to pay off. Inhospitable planets (such as Scorched, Frozen, or Volcanic planets) will have a hard time convincing people to visit, which will keep their populations low. This will prevent them from becoming S-ranked settlements.

How to improve settlement in No Man's Sky? ›

Construct new buildings and set new policies from the overseers office to turn the settlement around, reduce its debts and improve the lives of its citizens. Warning: Settlements will periodically attract the attention of sentinel forces. Check the current sentinel alert levels from the settlement management interface.

Can you have more than one settlement in No Man's Sky? ›

The good news is that become an Overseer isn't a permanent job that's limited to only one settlement per save. Players can find new settlements in No Man's Sky, but if someone is already an Overseer of a different settlement they'll have to abandon their old settlement for the new one.

How do you make settlements happy in no man's sky? ›

The decisions that the Overseer has to make directly impact the growth of the Settlement. An early choice that has to be made, for example, is whether or not to construct a Saloon or Marketplace. The Saloon will increase the happiness meter of the settlers, while the Marketplace will increase revenue.

What is the max settlement population in NMS? ›

The population count is a record of the number citizens in a planetary settlement, up to the maximum of 200. By building more residences and accepting new people in the settlement, it is possible to increase its population.

How do you get your settlement out of debt in no man's sky? ›

I have enough credits to pay off the debt outright... How do we do so? You can't. You have to increase productivity until the debt is slowly paid off by itself.

Can I move my settlement in NMS? ›

You can change settlements as many times you want but you can only claim and manage 1, if you did change it your last one still exists but it's reset in the exact state you found it when starting it (you could in theory re-claim it). I did all this in my testings.

How long would it take to visit every system in NMS? ›

Your character wakes up on one planet, but No Man's Sky has 255 entire galaxies' worth of planets to explore, totaling up to more than 18 quintillion worlds. It would take you nearly 585 billion years to see them all.

How to decrease sentinel alert level? ›

If the player can move far enough away from pursuing Sentinels, the alert will be cancelled immediately, cutting short the evasion timer.

What is the max amount of money you can have in no man's sky? ›

The maximum number of units that a player can accrue is 4,294,967,295 (approx 4.3 billion) (being FFFFFFFF in hexadecimal, thus being an overflow error) after which the number will not rise any further. It will NOT wrap around to zero.

Can you have 2 ships in no man's sky? ›

The player begins the game with one starship and may acquire additional starships later. A maximum of twelve starships may be part of a player's fleet, although no more than six will be located in the freighter hangar at any time. The other ships can be swapped out using the quick menu.

How many freighters can you own? ›

You can only own one freighter. Thanks that what i figured but i thing it would have been cool to have an entire fleet. That's the exact reason I came here, I was trying to see if I could have a Fleet of Freighters, but apparently "No." Too bad, I'd have loved to have a "Task Force" of Freighters.

How do you find a different settlement in NMS? ›

Start things off with the Cartographer that is present on any Space Station. From the NPC, you need to purchase a Settlement Chart using Navigation Chips. That is a type of map made specifically for locating Settlements. In the absence of Navigation Chips/Data, this item can be bought from Galactic Trade Terminals.

How to complete the settlers in No Man's Sky? ›

Your duty is to defeat seven Corrupted Drone. When all corrupted drone is defeated, you need to talk with a citizen once more time to accept a thanks. After that, you need to go to a Settlement Interface to become this settlement overseer. Then, go to the Construction Terminal to build the Administration Terminal.
